Urban Nutrition Initiative Phase II
Scaling Kenya’s Organic Food System through Enhanced Market Access for Vulnerable Consumers in Nairobi.
The Urban Nutrition Initiative Phase II, implemented by Diabetes Awareness Trust (DAT), Feedback to the Future (FttF), and the Alliance of Bioversity International & CIAT (ABC), builds on the proven impact of Phase I to scale nutrition and food systems work in Viwandani, Nairobi. Working through trained Community Health Promoters, direct community and household education, and establishing organic urban demonstration gardens, DAT is expanding the reach of interventions that link safe food production to healthier diets and NCD prevention deepening behaviour change around food acquisition, preparation, and consumption while equipping more households and schools with the knowledge and skills to make lasting, healthier food choice.

Piloting an Organic Food System in Kenya by Connecting Vulnerable Consumers in Nairobi with Small-Scale Producers in Makueni County
The Urban Nutrition Initiative is a consortium project implemented by three partners: Diabetes Awareness Trust (DAT), Feedback to the Future (FttF), and the Alliance Bioversity & CIAT (ABC). In the project, ABC serves as the lead coordinating organization, while DAT and FttF are the implementing partners. DAT focuses on vulnerable consumers in Viwandani, Makadara Sub-County, Nairobi, with a particular emphasis on people managing non-communicable diseases (NCDs) and mothers with children under five years.
Healthy Living with T1D
Improving Type 1 Diabetes (T1D) care in Kenya by strengthening community support systems, enhancing access to safe and nutritious foods, and providing psychosocial support for patients and caregiver
Healthy Living with T1D (T1D) is implemented by Diabetes Awareness Trust (DAT) with support from Panaroma T1D. Running from 15th February 2025 to 15th March 2027. The project expands DAT’s Community Diabetes Support Network (CDSN) IN Thika Sub-County, Kiambu County
The initiative combines clinical self-management, nutrition security and community empowerment, placing patients, caregivers and health actors at the center of resilient T1D cARE.
