Established in 2017 and formally registered in December 2021, as a non-profit development organization dedicated to empowering individuals and communities to live healthier lives. DAT works to promote prevention and ease the management of diabetes and other non-communicable diseases (NCDs) including hypertension, cancer, and arthritis.

All of our work is centered around people living with diabetes. With the many challenges they face and if we collectively address them by making voices, people struggling with diabetes will be productive and improve lifestyles. Productivity and better life quality improves when right information reaches the most affected, food systems and health systems address diabetes systemic challenges.

2017 – Foundation & Awareness Launch

Established in March 2017 to enlighten Kenyans about diabetes and other NCDs through education and community outreach .

2018 -2020– Campaign Expansion & Community Engagement

  • Rolled out community sensitization efforts on nutrition and food safety, engaging health workers and families through cooking demos and public walks.

  • Deepened advocacy by linking consumer information with local healthcare networks to drive awareness and self-management support .

2021– Diabetes Awareness Trust Officially Registered

Diabetes Awareness Trust was officially registered under the NGO’s Board and Ministry of Interior Coordination.

2022 – Capacity Building & Nutrition Focus

Launched extensive training for community health workers and professionals focused on healthy nutrition education, bolstering grassroots knowledge

2023 – Consolidation & Strategic Programming

Solidified core programs around “Campaigns, Advocacy & Networking” to advocate for quality diabetes services and policy change.

Campains, Advocacy and Awareness Creation

  • Expanded consumer information and nutrition education initiatives, developing structured resources for food safety, dietary behavior, and healthy eating across communities.
  • We intend to reach over 1000 people living with Diabetes and NCDs.
