Cross Cutting Issues
DAT Cross-Cutting Issues
At Diabetes Awareness Trust (DAT), we recognize that tackling non-communicable diseases (NCDs) and building healthier communities requires more than single interventions. In addition to our 5 main programmes, there are essential cross-cutting issues that influence and strengthen all our programmes.
Food Sytems and Us
For us, nutrition does not begin on the plate; it starts in the soil. DAT promotes safe, sustainable, and agroecological farming practices as the foundation of healthy diets. By connecting how food is produced with how it impacts health, we emphasize that safe and nutritious food is both a consumer right and a producer responsibility. Through this lens, every DAT programme from consumer education to advocacy links food production to human health and the prevention of NCDs.
Climate Change Adaptation and Health
The climate crisis is not just an environmental issue, it is also a health issue. Rising temperatures, shifting rainfall patterns, and food insecurity all influence the prevalence of NCDs and the ability of communities to adapt. DAT integrates climate change adaptation across its programmes, raising awareness on its health implications and advocating for food and health systems that are resilient, sustainable, and equitable
Inclusivity
We believe that healthier futures are only possible when everyone is part of the solution. Inclusivity is at the heart of our work, ensuring that women, men, youth, and marginalized groups are actively engaged in every stage, from decision-making to implementation. By promoting gender equity and creating opportunities for young people, DAT empowers communities to champion safe food, healthy living, and stronger health systems.
